Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an EXTRAORDINARY destiny

“Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny.”  – C.S. Lewis

If this quote is true I should have one hell of a future to look forward to. Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair. You see my life has been filled with stress and strife.  It’s a really long tear jerking story but I will make it short and sweet…well not so sweet…I digress.  You see for a period of five years my life was PURE HELL.  My father died from cancer (6 months after being diagnosed), my 29 year old husband was diagnosed with colon cancer, and then to top things off my 14 year old son was diagnosed with brain cancer and passed away after a very courageous fight.  Did I mention at the same time I started a new business that failed, moved to another city, and my mother was then diagnosed with skin cancer.  Okay okay…you get the picture.

I am innately talented and have always been exceptionally driven (yeah I LOVE ME if you can’t tell) so after a VERY short period of denial, depression, and just plain misery I decided to pick myself up and get back to the grind.  Why waste all of this God given talent?  It’s a good thing I did because I ended up landing my dream job as a Marketing Manager for a major African American Museum.  This job afforded me the opportunity to work with celebrities and a slew of prominent people. I was making good money. But, I wasn’t HAPPY.  Internally, I was dying.

I have known my whole life I was “special” (at 18 I got a tatoo that says “One in a Million”).  I have always felt as though my purpose for being on this earth was TO MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT IN THE LIVES OF OTHERS.  So I decided to quit my job at the Museum and pursue my purpose. After serving as a dominating force and respected authority in the dynamic fields of Brand Strategy and Multicultural Marketing for over 20 years I decided to share my gifts by serving as a Life Coach, Motivational Speaker, and now…blogger (via MogulMadam.com).

Why Mogul Madam? Why now? After successfully building hundreds of successful brands I began to realize that the majority of the businesses I helped to build were minority women owned businesses.  They were drawn to me and I was drawn to them.  We spoke the same language, shared the same stresses, and were basically “cut from the same cloth”.  After working with these amazing women I learned that “WOMEN really do ROCK”.  If we would just realize and “own” the power we possess we can change the world.  WE are POWER PERSONIFIED.

So the purpose of Mogul Madam is to provide a global ecosystem that will educate, empower, and inspire multicultural female entrepreneurs (like myself).  Which in return will help fuel innovation, economic growth and prosperity for everyone involved.

Each one teach one.  Let’s share our personal stories (you haven’t even heard my whole life story. Did I mention getting pregnant after trying for over 8 years, two miscarriages, watching my newborn daughter fight for her life in NICU, and a WHOLE lot more) and lessons learned while on the road to building great companies, communities, and initiatives.  Because after all, girls compete but women collaborate.
